Sixth Annual Intraschool Competition

Posted By , Feb 26, 2013

On February 23rd, the King Hall Negotiations Team hosted its Sixth Annual Intraschool Negotiations Competition. The competition, held at King Hall, hosted 22 judges from across the state (including superior court judges, lawyers, business professionals and professors) and 44 King Hall student-competitors. The caliber of competitors this year was, without a doubt, the highest we have seen to-date.

This year’s problem concerned trusts, wills and estates. Students competed, in teams of two, in two primary rounds of negotiations.  In each round, students negotiated a different legal situation and were evaluated by either two or three competition judges.  After the two rounds, the top four teams were announced and they competed in the final round in the afternoon.

Congratulations to the following winners of the competition:

First Place Team — (Team E) Austin Cho '15 & Graham Hoerauf '15;

Second Place Team — (Team D) Andrew Alfonso '15 & Hayes Hyde '15;

Finalist Team — (Team 4) Alexandra Fulton '15 & Alana Joyce '15;

Finalist Team — (Team 7) Kelly Bradfield '14 & Mike Le '14.

The King Hall Negotiations Board would like to extend our gratitude to the judges who spent their Saturday with us and provided substantial feedback to our students, making this a very valuable educational experience.

We would also like to commend the entire King Hall Negotiations Team for their exceptional organizational skills and enthusiasm. Under the leadership of President Jasmine Tzeng ’13 and Competition Chairs Kristin Charbonnier ’13 and Kara DiBiasio ’13, the Negotiations Board planned and executed a very well orchestrated event.  Special recognition should also be given to Saba Shatara ’13, Allison Callaghan ’13, Leah White ’13, Kyle Junginger ’14, Joel Gerson '14, and Hank Nguyen ’14 for their diligent commitment to the organization of the competition.

Importantly, we would like to thank the Dean’s Office for their generous financial support, and Dean Kevin Johnson for greeting our guests on the morning of the event.  And, a final special thanks to Professor Donna Shestowsky (Faculty Advisor), Support Staff Linda Cooper, Event Manager Gia Hellwig, and Graphic Designer Sam Sellers, without whom this event would not have been such a great success.
