KHNT Competes in Unique South Texas College Energy Law Competition
Posted By Nathan Searcy, Mar 31, 2021
The 6th Annual Energy Law Negotiation Competition was held virtually on March 26-27, 2021. This competition allows students to develop their negotiation skills with real world fact patterns based on current issues in the field of energy. The King Hall Negotiations Team (KHNT) was represented by Aysha Majeed ’21 and Marjan Kris Ramos Abubo ’22.
One of the features that makes this competition unique is that every student competitor is guaranteed to be judged by experts in the oil and gas field. Judges come from a variety of prestigious energy companies and law firms giving students valuable insight and real-life perspectives.
This year the competition was held entirely on zoom. Students had to adapt to this new environment and adjust their strategy according to the resources they were afforded. Aysha and Marjan were well prepared for this online platform and proved to be adaptable, knowledgeable, strong advocates for their client, and skilled negotiators.
“Representing King Hall for the first time in this competition has been an absolute privilege,” said Marjan. “I was able to hone in on my transactional law skills while becoming fluent in the field of energy development and negotiations. The team's willingness to sacrifice a portion of their Spring Break to assist Aysha and I is a strong reminder of the collaborative and empowering environment that UC Davis, and particularly the Negotiations Team, has to offer.”
KHNT would like to thank the KHNT team, 1Ls, and non KHNT members who volunteered to help Aysha and Marjan prepare for this competition. Additionally, we would like to extend a special thank you to Ali Majeed who served as the non-faculty volunteer coach and was an immense help in the preparation for the competition. We would also like to thank KHNT President, Lauren Ball ’21 and KHNT External Competition Chair, Thea Percival ’21 for their work in organizing this competition and all the work that went into preparation for the competition.
