King Hall Takes First Place at Environmental Negotiations Competition
Posted By , Mar 26, 2012
On Friday March 23rd, twenty-six teams representing sixteen California law schools competed in the California State Bar Environmental Law Section’s 13th Annual Student Negotiations Competition. Two-person teams competed in two preliminary rounds of a simulated environmental dispute. The teams were judged by environmental lawyers, judges, and professional mediators.
King Hall students David Green (’12) and Naomi Kaplowitz (’12) represented King Hall in the competition, as did Miles Hogan (’12) and Drew Saruwatari (’12). Both teams were coached by faculty advisor, Professor Rick Frank. After the preliminary rounds of competition, the team of Hogan-Saruwatari advanced to the finals, a first-ever accomplishment for a UC Davis team. In the final round, teams negotiated an entirely new environmental dispute. The team of Hogan-Saruwatari ultimately won First Place in the competition.
This year’s competitors would like to thank Professor Frank, Professor Lin, and Professor Shestowsky for their guidance and help with preparing for the competition. Additionally, the competitors would like to thank Leah White of the King Hall Negotiations Team for setting up practice rounds and graciously donating her time to help us prepare. Finally, the competitors would like to thank the Deans for their financial support and their support of the Environmental and Negotiations programs at King Hall.
