Record Participation at 1L Competition

On September 27, 2014, the King Hall Negotiations Team hosted the Third Annual 1L Negotiation Competition at the UC Davis School of Law. This year's event celebrated a record-breaking participation level, with more than one-third of the class of 2017 participating in the competition.
Competing in teams of two, students negotiated solutions to legal problems in the area of entertainment law. The teams were evaluated by members of KHNT, all of whom are second-year and third-year law students. Following two preliminary rounds, the four highest-scoring teams advanced to the third and final round. Selecting finalists proved difficult, as many skilled negotiators participated in this year's competition. Prior to the competition, students participated in a series of workshops and simulations geared towards helping them learn how to prepare for a negotiation.
The King Hall Negotiations Team congratulates the two winning teams, Alex Epstein '17 & Zack Zaharoff '17 and Elaine Owen '17 & Matt Bourhis '17, as well as finalists Alex Johnson '17 & Joel Guerra '17 and Katie Rogers '17 & Trevor Fehr '17.
The Negotiations Honors Board commends the entire Negotiations Team for its efforts to seamlessly administer this competition. Under the leadership of President Graham Hoerauf '15, Internal Competitions Chair Samantha Mandell '16, and Research Chair Aaron Israel '16, the team planned a truly memorable event. KHNT extends its sincerest appreciation to Professor Donna Shestowsky, faculty advisor, for her steadfast commitment to the Negotiations Team. KHNT also thanks the dean's office for generously funding this event, and extends gratitude to all competitors for making the competition a memorable, didactic experience.
