WHAT IS "SPARRING"
Sparring is the term for practicing with a team of KHNT Members that is preparing to be in a national competition. Sparring may be done as a single person posing as a client for a client counseling competition, with a partner for a negotiations competition, or with a partner in front of a third party for a mediation competition.
WHO CAN SPAR
Current KHNT Team Members and invited guests "spar" with KHNT Team Members throughout the year. In order to be invited to spar with a competition team, current law students can show their interest in and aptitude for sparring by competing in the Annual 1L Competition and Annual Intraschool Competition.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR SPARRING
Unless given other instructions by the External Competitions Chair, sparring volunteers are typically provided the general set of facts given to all competitors in the national competition. The competition team retains the confidential set of facts for their side. The sparring team is then challenged to create a set of concerns relevant to their client based on common sense and creative license. Their goal is to predict the strategies and goals of the opposition at the national competition.
