The Gulf Community

The MCJ is located near the interstate 10 and 110 headed north and south towards the Gulf. The land was pocketed with houses here and there on the way to the MCJ offices, with many having been destroyed or wiped out by the surge during Katrina. However, some houses and business were able to remodel and rebuild. In other cases, whole new neighborhoods were constructed, with cut lawns and curbed streets. Still, evidence of Katrina still exists with car wreckage hidden in the trees or an abandoned dwelling, boarded up, and bearing a white X on its exterior.

While the newer community seems to be bustling with activity, children playing in the streets, the smells of home cooked meals filling the air, many houses remain vacant and are for sale. These houses have paper leaflets in the windows declaring their vacant status to all. The community seems tightly knit and neighborly, though its size may not be as large as it once had been.
