The Viable Option in These Economic Times, Freelance Lawyering & Contract Work — Presentation and Workshop Tues 9/20
Posted By Rabia Paracha, Sep 14, 2011
Freelance Lawyering—Presentation and Workshop Tuesday, September 20 What does it mean to be a freelance lawyer? What is contract work? King Hall students and alumni are invited to come hear about what attorney/author Marina Modlin calls the "independence track". Ms. Modlin is a Bay Area lawyer, founder of Modlin Legal, a freelance firm and now an estate planning firm. Ms. Modlin is the author of the recently-published The Independence Track: How To Succeed As A Freelance Attorney (available in the CSO library), a how-to guide for attorneys pursuing freelance/contract work directly from law firms (instead of indirectly from temp agencies). Ms. Modlin will explain how to set up a freelance law practice, how to get freelance work, and how to do the work. National Association for Legal Professionals (NALP) has described her process as “common-sense,” “pragmatic,” and “easy to put into practice.” You can learn more about Ms. Modlin, Modlin Legal, and The Independence Track here and here.
Next Tuesday, September 20th, King Hall will be hosting a presentation (12:00 pm to 1:00 pm) and workshop (6:00pm -- 7:30pm) on freelance lawyering and obtaining contract work directly from firms rather than through temp agencies. Students who are seeking temporary work from firms, an alternative route for employment, or seeking to start their own practice are encouraged to attend. Please see below for more information and be sure to RSVP. Snacks will be provided.
Sponsored by the Career Services Office and the Law Students Association.
