New Position in the Career Services Office Added -- Associate Director of Career Services and Judicial Clerkships

The Career Services Office is excited to announce that we are actively recruiting to add another counselor to our office.  The new addition will have the title of Associate Director of Career Services and Judicial Clerkships.  The Associate Director will focus on counseling first year and second year law students and running the Judicial clerkship program.  The new Associate Director will also be tasked with conducting extensive outreach to small and midsize firms.  We are seeking a candidate with a JD, strong legal experience and an extensive network.  The addition will also allow Alison Shinsato to transition from her current duties to focus on counseling 3L students and recent graduates along with Lisa Carlock.  The addition to our office will allow us to provide more counseling to those in their third year and recent graduates with no drop-off in 1L and 2L counseling.  Alison will also work on developing more contacts and opportunities for those seeking international law careers.  We are excited about expanding the office and providing additional services to our students and recent graduates.
 
I also was informed that there was some concern about the fact that the position was posted on Craigslist.  I can assure you that the goal is to post the position as widely as possible and Craigslist has become a forum that many practicing attorneys routinely use and review.  Recent postings on Craigslist include professional and attorney positions at: Stanford Law School (Associate Director positions in Development and Career Services); Google (legal in-house positions throughout the country -- posted on a weekly basis); Netflix (Associate General Counsel); UCLA Medical School, UCD Graduate School of Management, Fenwick & West (JD Business Development position), Latham & Watkins (Practice Development Coordinator), Gordon & Rees (Employment Law Attorney), San Mateo District Attorney, and many legal recruiters working for large law firms.  The position has also been posted on UC Davis’ official job board, Symplicity, alumni boards at most of the law schools in California, NALP (National Association for Law Placement) and BALRA (Bay Area Legal Recruitment Association).  The goal is to widely distribute the position and then we will carefully filter the candidates through an extensive screening and hiring process.
