The name of the organization shall be Advocates for the Rights of Children, hereafter referred to as ARC.
2.1 To create a network of UC Davis King Hall law students with similar interests in children's issues and the law.
2.2 To offer opportunities for law students to become more knowledgeable in the child law field and gain connections and practical knowledge in the child law field.
2.3 To engage in community service activities benefiting disadvantaged children.
2.4 To engage in legislative and policy advocacy activities to improve the area of children's law.
2.5 To educate the law school community and the public about the issues facing children, and increase awareness about the unmet legal needs of children.
2.6 To encourage law students to pursue a career in child law.
3.1 There shall be one class of regular membership in ARC: a King Hall law student who attends at least two meetings per semester and assists with the activities of the organization.
3.2 The co-chairs of the organization reserve the right to make exceptions to the above membership requirement, subject to approval by vote of the members.
4.1 The officers shall be chosen from among, and by, the members of ARC and shall be two co-chairs, a secretary, a treasurer, an event coordinator, and a web-site coordinator.
4.2 All officers shall perform the duties usually performed by such officers and set forth in these By-Laws.
4.3 One or both co-chairs shall preside at all ARC meetings, shall be an ex-officio member of all committees and shall have he power to delegate supervisory duties for committees to other members of ARC.
4.4 The Treasurer shall collect and disburse all funds and accounts, and shall report to the members on the financial condition of ARC whenever directed. The books and accounts of the Treasurer shall at all times be subject to examination by other officers.
4.5 The Secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings of all ARC meeting, shall keep an accurate roll of all members, shall issue notices of all meetings and shall conduct the correspondence of the Chapter.
4.6 The Event Coordinator shall oversee all ARC sponsored events, and delegate responsibilities as needed to other officers and the membership.
4.7 The Web-site Coordinator shall create and maintain the official ARC web-site with member and office input, and shall keep information on the web-site updated and relevant.
5.1 Officers shall be elected in May of each year, at the last meeting of the organization.
5.2 Officers shall be nominated by members at this meeting, and all members attending the meeting are eligible to vote for nominated officers.
5.3 If only one member is nominated for any officer position, this member will assume the \ officer position by default.
5.4 Voting: Voting for nominated officers shall be by majority (at least 51%) vote of members attending the election meeting. All voting will be conducted by closed ballots.
5.5 Term: All elected officers shall serve a term of one year beginning at the May election meeting.
5.6 Removal: Officers may be removed from position by resignation or by a motion by a member which must be approved by a majority (at least 51%) of members attending the voting meeting.
6.1 ARC meetings shall be held twice monthly at a time and location designated by the co-chairs.
These By-Laws of ARC may be amended as follows:
10.1 Amendments may be adopted at any meeting of ARC by majority vote of members present provided prior 2 weeks written notice of the proposed amendment was e-mailed to all members.
