Welcome Class of 2019!

The King Hall Negotiations Team is excited to welcome the Class of 2019 to UC Davis School of Law! On Thursday, August 25, 2016, KHNT participated in the school-wide Student Organization Fair. Board members spoke individually with students interested in competitive negotiation and the study of alternative dispute resolution. In fact, more than 75 students requested additional information regarding KHNT and its upcoming events.

KHNT provides first-year students with multiple opportunities to practice and refine their oral advocacy skills. On Saturday, September 24, KHNT will host its Fourth Annual 1L Negotiation Competition, during which 30 teams of two will compete in a three-round event judged by seasoned competitors. During its “Shark Week,” September 12-16, KHNT will invite 1L students to sign up during any one of the exciting lunch time events. Professor Donna Shestowsky will provide introductory instruction on negotiation theory and strategy Friday the 16th. The competition’s fact pattern is entirely self-contained, and will be distributed approximately one week in advance.

Regardless of whether first-year students compete on September 24, all students are invited to participate in a second intraschool competition this spring. KHNT also encourages interested students to “spar” with current team members in preparation for outside competitions. While not required or guaranteed, students who participate and excel in the two intraschool competitions, and volunteer to prepare team members for outside competitions, often join KHNT the following year. KHNT is a great way to hone your skills, build your resume, and make lasting friendships.

Please check back every Thursday for new blog posts on KHNT happenings as well as articles on negotiations and practical tips. Hope that the class of 2019 has a successful time negotiating the transition to law school!
