Arrival in New Orleans

Posted By Theo Ko, Mar 20, 2011

We made our way to the Business District, found parking near a hotel called International House, and then walked over to a place recommended by the International House hostess called Daisy Dukes, home of world famous hand crafted wings. Sitting at three large booths, the 19 of us partook of po-boys, hot wings, jambalaya, and crocodile sausage.

Afterwards, we walked to Bourbon Street, quite possibly the world's largest block party. Crowds of people below trying to coax plastic bead necklaces from crowds of people above, bars packed with people, blaring loud music, and places of more discerning and specialized tastes. It was loud, boisterous, and quite some overload. A small group of us, David, Anna, Josh, and myself, made our way to a quieter part of town and hit the famous Cafe Du Monde, which was packed and bustling at 1130 PM. Families, older groups of people, young groups of people, everyone was here. The company was good, and the authentic beignets (pronounced BEN-yays) were delicious with mountains of powdered sugar. Afterwards, we rounded up folks from Bourbon Street and went back to our luxurious accommodations at the Super 8.
